First time skippers raised over $32,000 for Australian hearts

Catherine from St Francis Catholic College describes why she decided to sign up for Jump Rope for Heart in 2024.

"We loved the idea of Jump Rope for Heart as many of our staff and parent community participated during their time at school. Staff and parents remember this as a highlight of their time at school.

"We also loved the idea of getting students to be more active during break times and speaking about heart health as it impacts so many of our St Francis families.”

Bringing it to the school for the first time, Catherine and her school community had huge success running Jump Rope for Heart. Her students skipped 355 hours and raised an incredible $32,201 to help save Australian hearts!

Now she wants to share her top three reasons why other schools should sign up:

  • It’s an inclusive program: As a K–12 school, they had students from Kinder all the way to Year 12 participating.
  • Easy integration into other school activities: They incorporated house points from their school reward system to make it even more engaging.
  • Heart health is so important: Heart disease affects many Australians. Early education is crucial, and this is one of the best ways to do it.

“It’s a really great initiative. The Heart Foundation is something I’ve always been closely linked to — I was a Jump Rope for Heart skipper as a child. I think it’s super important to teach our kids the importance of cardiovascular health and fitness, and it’s just a super fun way to do it.”
